Maybe intervene in Syria if possible. I'm for people not being displaced from their homes.
If we actually had something better to offer here, it might be an option. A lifetime on public assistance doesn't appeal to everyone.

I don't see why not virtually every other western country is going too, U.S. has to share some responsibility for bombing the country - Australia has taken in more refugees per capita over the last few years than any other country. - (not that i disapprove or approve).

Most of the people coming to Europe are not refugees, they are economic immigrants. They are heading for Germany & France first , where the brighter ones will be allowed to stay and get jobs , that's ok if they are contributing to the economy there. On the other hand we in the UK will probably take in the less desirables who will come over , and live off the state, they will be allowed to come over to the UK, as there is nothing to stop them whilst we are members of the EU. The best think the USA can do for themselves is not get involved. Even though Tony Blair and George Bush created the problem in the first place.

I'd be more than happy, if I had the means to do so, take someone(s) in. It would be fun, educational, and worthy. As the Irish say: there is always enough for one more. Yep, I will do it, let me talk to David about it......
