I have on occasion, used physical punishment when correcting my own kids, now pushing 40.  With the grand kids, however, I only once gave a light spank on the bottom of the grand son, and was spoken to by my wife.  We talk, and give time outs!  It seems to work most of the time.  It is something I am not used to, as my mom did not talk!  Whack!  Usually one dose was enough!  I am also somewhat normal, so I survived it...

The Pope is spot on the money,Spare the rod spoil the child,,are good words no matter where they come from,,i am not talking about knocking their front teeth out,,but i am talking about a kick up the bum,,if this was to happen,,we would not have as many disrespectful kids or unruly kids as we have today,,in any case ,we have the kids of today,due to their parents parenting or lack of it..>>>>>><<<<<

I think there may be times when the shock of a swat may do the trick that every other alternative has failed to accomplish.  It should not be the "go to", but a last resort.  With one of my sons, however, a swat NEVER derailed his behavior.  Eventually, NOTHING worked on any of them. It will be interesting to see how they deal with their children, God willing I live long enough!
