I have diabetes Type 2 diagnosed about 12 years ago and controlled with pills, exercise and diet. Blindness is one of the complications so you need to get an eye test once a year. Other complications are kidney disease, heart problems, gum disease and amputation of feet owing to poor circulation.

Type 2 does not need injections at least in the early stages. Type 1 is a different matter and regular injections are necessary.
The disease needs to be taken seriously but if you follow the rules it is not a death sentence.
I Know susan does not need injections as in type one Colleen, she has been told by the hospital eye specialist, more then a year ago that she might need injections to the eyes, followed by possible surjury,

Actually, that was nomdeplume's comment to you. I moved it here because I believe this is where he intended to place it instead of as another new answer.
I think the chance of developing blindness is greater in type 2's over type 1. Care is essential in either. Eye exam for retinopathy once a year is important. There is always lasers surgery. My brother had that done twice due to retina detachment. She should see her endocrinologist every three months. I see mine tomorrow.....

She is due to see eye specilist in early march, but in the last few weeks has said that things that she is use to viewing ,i,e,the television, and reading with glasses, things are getting more blurier,
My guess is that she just needs glasses. Retinal detachment usually presents red spider veins in the vision. I would figure there would be more to the problem than just blurred vision. I’m so glad she is going to a specialist!
