In part, the article states:
"
the report said homosexuals “need to be welcomed and accompanied with patience and delicacy” and that “[homosexuals] have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community.”
Not only does the document admit the existence of committed and loving gay and lesbian partnerships—something the church has been hesitant to do thus far—it also says that such partnerships might have redeeming qualities: “Without denying the moral problems connected to homosexual unions, it has to be noted that there are cases in which mutual aid to the point of sacrifice constitutes a precious support in the life of the partners,” the report reads.
Indeed, the report condemns gay partnerships as “imperfect” and emphasizes that “unions between people of the same sex cannot be considered on the same footing as matrimony between man and woman.”
PERSONALLY, I don't encourage homosexual relationships, but don't condemn or pass judgment on those relationships, either, and enjoy friendships with both "societies" without difficulty. The Catholic church is between a rock and a hard place. It has become increasingly difficult for many to remain steadfast to their beliefs if they go against darned near anybody who wants to shout "prejudiced! discrimination".

Not so long ago, slavery was considered acceptable. Even defended by the major religions.
A few facts: The lowest birthrates in Europe are in Catholic italy and Catholic Spain, so the inhabitants of these countries are clearly practising birth control. The Church is seriously short of priests and this problem could be partly solved by allowing priests to marry. There are many gay priests though probably no as many as in the Angican church.
Next step- women priests?

I don't see any problem with the issue. Love is not to be subject to legislation.

It is to attack the sceptre in the name of the throne, and the mitre in the name of the attar; it is to ill-treat the thing which one is dragging, it is to kick over the traces; it is to cavil at the fagot on the score of the amount of cooking received by heretics; it is to reproach the idol with its small amount of idolatry; it is to insult through excess of respect; it is to discover that the Pope is not sufficiently papish, that the King is not sufficiently royal, and that the night has too much light; it is to be discontented with alabaster, with snow, with the swan and the lily in the name of whiteness; it is to be a partisan of things to the point of becoming their enemy; it is to be so strongly for, as to be against.
