How do ordinary folks loose their mind?

It's not a joke. I thought it was a rare event and not even possible. Then I went to see my VA medical doctor who wanted to do a colonoscopy under Propofol, an anesthetic.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2358493/How-general-anaesthetic-harm-memory-life-Research-finds-quarters-older-patients-develop-memory-loss-surgery.html Now I'm wondering if there are lawyers who can tear into this like sharks in a blood bath.

I had a "gastroscopy" a few years ago administered with this drug, can't remember a thing about it. I also had an "endoscopy" a few months later with the same drug, I remember every painful corner that tube turned in my guts, I suppose my Mums old saying is true, "don't worry what your stomach is saying, it'll always be fed, and don't worry what comes from your a$$, it's been fed well too, as long as you're a gentleman and hide your pain".

    FFFFfffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The USA is apparently less mindful of the side effects of anesthesia on folks over 65 than on your side of the pond.

The good ole NHS in the UK is quite good at warning you about any side effects, unfortunately in my a$$ examination they never gave me enough of the stuff.
    OUCH!!!!!!!!
I'm a tad under 65, no difference though.

    But....but....

James had a colonoscopy And an endoscopy at the same time. They knocked him out for it until he woke up with the tube down his throat and knocking against something. I have no idea what they used…….

Health care professionals make as many errors as those who work in other fields. The sooner we realize that "because my doctor says", is not a satisfactory answer to why and how medical procedures are done, the healthier we'll be. Ask questions, get a second opinion and most importantly, don't be afraid to request more information. The patient sometimes knows more than the doctor! Why? Because patients also have the ability to read!!! Don't lose your mind, or anything else, due to passively believing and blindly accepting what you hear from a so-called "expert"!

    AMEN!

There's no telling with any anesthesia.  My son had tubes put into his ears twice and then was circumcised at 10 (you don't need the details of why he was 10).  With each surgery, his recovery was longer, and when he awoke, he was more and more agitated.  He seriously needs his wisdom teeth extracted, but is scared of what will happen when he wakes up.

Two of my aunts (mother's sisters) awoke from totally unrelated surgeries and were never the same, cognitively.

You, and anyone else, has the right to monitor what medications are given to you.  I, personally, don't recommend a rectally invasive procedure without some sort of knock-me-out assistance, but you can discuss other options with you physician and/or anesthesiologist.

Ordinary people can lose their minds simply from the ordinariness of their lives.
