A letter of attestation is a letter that is written to try and verify a statement. For example, if someone had completed some specialized training, they may write a letter of attestation, with a signature on the bottom, stating that they completed the training. It is a form of self certification, but it is still a relatively valid document when confirming specific details.
Tips for writing a letter of attestation
- Be truthful: include nothing but the truth; you may be called upon in the future to defend your attestment, so it is best to be honest!
- Clearly state what you are attesting to; don’t use ambiguous or general language. Clarity is essential.

Dear William Hill
I hereby attest that I have completed all the necessary courses to become a certified financial advisor. I have a valid series 7, as well as an investment license, which are the requirements in the state of New York to advice clients on financial matters. I declare that the above statement is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge.
Sincerely,
Signature
