An example. About 100 years ago a fungus disease wiped out the chestnut trees of N America. Research has developed a resistant tree by splicing a gene from wheat into the chestnut gene, so the tree could make a comeback if the public agree. So what do you think?

Hey Nom, I am a bit yes and no on that subject,,I think science is a wonderful thing. And there is a good and bad side to all science,,I think maybe it is a good thing if the good outweighs the bad.Problem is ,we do not generally find out what the bad is until after it is made legal..As for your North American tree,,did man give it the Fungus death???or was it a natural fungus death...>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<Always nice talking NOM......

I am all in favour of GM.
NO! When will we humans learn that nature can take care of things without we "very wise people" getting our noses into everything? We cannot accept that we don't have a better way than nature itself. The pharmaceutical companies rejoice every time we, in our great wisdom, decide that we need yet another chemical/process to make our food better. We really need to wake up and do some more reading into the research that is readily available to all.

I’m yes and no on the subject. I have a girlfriend who goes out and protest GMO users and only eats organic. She is very fat. I’m for bug free veggies but am cautious what I put in my body…..

I'm against genetic mod b/c they're already doing it to our food. ......the GMO food . And they ad MSG to everything we eat. They don't even have to put it on the label. they're allowed to use euphemisms........like " polycized protein " or " natural flavors " Those words mean MSG.

ROMOS, that is good for the UK, definitely. Here, it is sold under the name "Accent". Pure poison you sprinkle out of a red and white container.
Good to know Fish-O. I do read labels and am cautious about sodium content; will become more careful. MSG hasn't been MY friend!
I do not agree with genetically modifying anything, especially plant life that we consume (including chestnut tress since people eat chestnuts). GM is known to cause mutations in plants and animals and now people. GM crops have been burned around the world for very good reason. I believe GM foods will kill people and has been designed to do so.

It's a dilemma, for sure. GM those chestnuts with wheat, and you need to put a big warning for those gluten intolerant folks.
There's been so much "progress" in the last 50 years, one would think we would have been better at anticipating problems and worked on cures and preventatives that didn't come with all the side effects and warning labels. We aren't as smart as we think we are.
For example, our highway construction convinces me that we aren't looking towards our future needs. Already the traffic is backed up on the new stretch of 41 we waited 3 years to see completed.

Another example of the advantages of GM: In Brazil, dengue fever is rife, so male mosquitoes which carry the disease have been engineered so their offspring die before maturity. In a test last year the mosquito population dropped by 79%
