When I turn my computer on, I clean it. I clear history, remove any and all hanging to-dos. Shut-down any running programs, keep it all tidy and neat. Then when operating my system I don't jump around from one program to another and back to something else then letting the system sit there on -line while I go to the store. My cat could walk across the keyboard or all sorts of odd events that can fowl things up.
Of course the system you use may be more prone to a vast array problems requiring an escalating investment to keep using it happily. Consumer's Reports magazine and website may help lead you to trouble free computing.....along with some courses on-line about computer operations teal.
