About 7 months ago I complained to our local alderman about a large bump in the road outside our house.He promised immediate action and about a week later 4 men arrived,in a truck with "Men at work signs,a traffic controller with a lollipop sign & a can of white spray paint.They were there for around 45 minutes & outlined the area to be repaired with the white spray paint.No further action was taken.3 months later I contacted the alderman again & asked about any expected progress.Once again 4 men arrived with the "Men at work" signs & so on & they upgraded the little white outlines to little yellow outlines.Yesterday a large contingent of men arrived,2 trucks "Men at work signs,traffic controllers with lollipop stop signs & once again the outlines were upgraded back to white.I wonder when some actual work will be done on the bump? It seems outline upgrading is a costly but necessary part of the ritual.

Tommy;
That story is grand. Thank you for the laugh. I am happy to know that this sort of thing is Global. ... I was hugely entertained while the 'saga' of new water pipes THEATIRCAL EXTRAVGANZA happened in front of my house. High entertainment for over a year.
People came and went... New units were introduced, roads a were dug up and dug up again... I couldn't leave my driveway this day, that day and three Tuesdays from 37 Wednesdays. It was quite the production.
Now they are surveying the roads. I would make popcorn but, I am allergic.

Orange spray paint is the official color for large bumps in roadway, here in USA, anyway! Seriously, we have call in teams to our local television stations for taxpayer waste stories, they help a lot!

I hope you documented each of these highly effective remedies with photos.
Like Witchway says, PUT IT IN WRITING. The value of the paper trail is priceless.
I would ask the council to give you the costs incurred to date with all the field trips and the cost it would take to actually make the needed repair.

Does the newspaper have an editorial columnist who might be willing to do a column on the problem and what's been done so far?
Either of those may get the attention of the right person, or enough people, to get something effective done.
What a racket.
The noise that bump generates outside our house is horrendous.
I'm gunna discuss it with Maggie.She's good at writing letters. :)
Maybe what will truly motivate those slackers is when someone flies over that bump and has an accident, sues the city/county, and walks (or is wheeled) away with a bazillion dollars...all because someone was too lazy and cheap to do it right the first time.
