Do you want some examples or should I spare you the details?
Ducky it's the little things people don't think about as being dirty that I'm very aware of such as the ice buckets in the rooms. Most of them don't get washed. I was taught to just grab a dirty towel off the bathroom floor and wipe it dry. BARF!
My Mommie taught me how to recycle toilet paper.

To A O F, I heard they used pages out of the Sears catalog, or corn husks to wipe with when they were out in the out-house.
Like country bumpkin my wife and i used to be commercial cleaners as a second job,,we never folded corners,we figure people are smart enough to do that considering what they are going to do with it. However nobody has said why "over the top "is the answer..If the holder falls against the wall, pulling down on the paper locks it against the wall and tears the paper at the front without putting your other hand on top of the roll,,if you run it through the back, you have to put your other hand on top of the roll to tear the paper, leaving the end of the roll at the back of the roll,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Always nice talking

Place the roll with the paper coming up over the top. That's the only way that makes any sense.Besides, that way , it doesn't get dirty by scraping along against the wall.
