Unless it's on the books as being against the law to utter the slur, we still have freedom of speech in this country. No one should lose their job or livelihood because of something said in private (like what happened recently). Now that being said, companies are private entities and are allowed their own set of rules. If they do not want someone who works for them, especially a contracted person who may represent the company in some fashion, using slurs at work or in public media, then they would have the right to fire them.

Tabby, Tabs;
When a person is in the public eye that person should act with decorum. I personally have no time or space for racism.
Racism ticks me off.
I honestly don't care when or why the words are said out loud.... the words are in the heart of a person and not acceptable to me..
To bad, so sad, bad man.
Fish of the day.....
Fish are not racist. They only eat each other because some of them taste better than others. A fish does not care about the colour of skin.... or scales. It is only about delicious :D

I once had a boss who said out loud to no one in particular that everyone who worked for him were children. He actually had the audacity to believe that he did all the work... That many may be wealthy as well, but he has lost all of his friends and all respect.
Children specifically look up to athletes. The owner of an athletic team is in a place of power. If that man is above the rest of us then why should are children be anything but racist? Racism is disgusting. If we don't get on top of it now, we will never get on top of it. Racism is a serious subject.
It seemed to be alright when Charles Barkley publicly stated ......" I hate white people "

Nothing we can do "for them", but if it's a person who is "high-profile", we can for instance, not buy a product if he/she is advertising it. If a politician, ask him/her to resign and/or don't vote for if up for election or re-election. If a sport's figure or entertainer, don't go to any event...

I don't condone what don said, I think it's terrible but on the otherhand, freedom of speech has been attacked as well. This conversation was private, I believe you should be free to say what you want in private, he was recorded without his permission of a private conversation, this 'twit' turns it over to authorities, the media gets ahold of it and he is punished for speaking his mind IN PRIVATE and recorded against his will. Then slandered by the media and millions of people forgetting this fact that it was an illegal recording and it was private.
Now I make myself clear-- If this was something said on broadcast willingly then this would be wrong, in the eyes of the PC bunch, race baiters and the alike. And in that case, I would agree with them, but the fact that he makes a fool of himself is punishment enough. but also, because he is high profile they feel the need to bust him mainly for his previous success as a businessman. These people on the attack do not like successful old white guys.
No attention to the 'twit' girlfriend that is with him soley for his money, new cars, fancy home and jewlery. She wants it all! And nobody sees wrong in that! Magic Johnson ain't no saint, and I can give a list of others that have slandered people not of their political liking or color and get away with it. I have seen much more racist remarks coming from those that cry racist than those they accuse. The whole thing is sick, and I am really tired of it. Good heavens people! there's not one of us that doesn't have a pet peeve that we keep to ourselves in private and not one of us would appreciate someone recording this personal pet peeve in private.
Personally, I think the 'twit' should be arrested for senior abuse.

Sounds like racism to me, does it to you?
Another great write up Vinny. I agree with you.
Racial slurs are unacceptable no matter whom directed. That person has no etiquette. If job contract prohibits slurs, it also specifies consequences for breaching. As a first step he or she should be asked to aplogise and be forgiven by the person slured at. Failing that follow the terms of the contract. As for others, the idiot should be ignored because he or she has a foul mouth. Dont let it stick to you. If you ignore, their intended agenda fails for lack of reaction. AND THAT IS A PUNISHMENT!
