Sounds like something that happens every day all across the USA...the not paying attention part.
California: Hollywood was initially founded to escape Thomas Edison! WHO KNEW???
Thomas Edison's film business held so many patents that competing film studios could barely make a profit, so a bunch moved west hoping patent laws wouldn't bother to reach them. This led studios to center themselves in Hollywood, Calif., instead of the original film capital, Fort Lee, N.J. Both Paramount and Universal were created in this westward move.

In my little state, RI, we had much slave trade, amidst the "Newport royalty". The state was founded on religious freedom by Roger Williams, and the home of the Industrial Revolution in the US, Slater Mill, in Pawtucket, RI. The Dorr Rebellion gave increased voting rights, resulting in more than male white landowners only to vote. In Victorian times, Newport was the playground of the wealthy of the US, they built many mansions along Ocean Drive. Some little known facts.
