    Different states in the U.S. have different sales tax. Can be anywhere from 5% to 8% of your purchase bought.  Food cannot be sales taxed though. The money goes to t he state……...

    Sales tax is money you pay to the state or government when you purchase just about everything there is to buy. There are different % taxes for each state and/or city. Ex: if you buy something that costs $5.00 and sales tax is 8%, you pay $.08 on each dollar making your total purchase price $5.40.
