Yes you can, as long as the existing ones are stuck firm to the subfloor. If they are loose in the slightest don't risk it, take them up. Otherwise you will have twice the problem, ie two layers lifting. Trust me I was a floor tiler for years.

so if I have stick on tiles laid down I can put ceramic on top don't think so
Well tdog, if you mean self adhesive tiles by stick on tiles obviously not . But as I said If the existing tiles are vinyl you can stick another layer over the top , if they are ceramics you can lay over the top . What I forgot to mention was that you should give the floor a coat of latex screed (ie over the existing) to smooth the floor and eliminate any vinyl reaction. I might have known some smart arse wouldn't understand .
