Have you or anyone you have known had a Staph infection?

I'm wondering about how it's transmitted and how long it takes to heal. I've been on the net. I like to hear from REAL people. My granddaughter (or two) have it.

My mother and step-mother both got staph infections while in the hospital, at different times.  They have both passed on now, but they also both had cancer first.  I hope that that helps.  I am sorry if you have a loved one with a staph infect. or you.  I will be praying for you.

    That's sad,JesusKid.You have my sympathies.
The hospital or a nursing home is loaded with staph. That's where I got mine. As soon as I got home from the hospital, from having surgery , the bottom end of my incision was infected with staph.Ditto for my late husband, who also died from cancer.

You're doing good, ((Juliana ))) aka: mcm

Yes. I've had it, and I've taken care of lots and lots of people that have a staff infection......when I was working as an LPN. It's not something to mess around with . If it doesn't heal by using topical antibiotics,or oral antibiotics, then the person will have to have  I V  anti-biotics . Before the advent of anti biotics, infection was the most common cause of death. If a staff infection goes septic ( goes into the blood stream )  that can bring about death, if not given IV antibiotics in time. That's commonly known as blood poisoning .It will take at least 4 days of IV antibiotics. People who are elderly, or frail, or younger people that don't have a good diet, or have an autoimmune disease, or people who are getting chemo are the most likely candidates for staph to go into the blood stream.

Thank you, Juliana. I have two granddaughters who have it. Mom took a few days to go on a vacation with her husband and missed seeing it in time. The eight year old has it bad. The younger has a light case. They live well, have a good diet. The girls are both really athletic, and healthy How could they have got it?
I talked to the Pharmacist and she said said that our town is full of it. It seems like it is on the rise. They are taking oral antibiotics. WASH WASH WASH WASh. HOT WATER. SOAP SHOULD LATHER. SING HAPPY BIRTHDAY TWICE. A DIP IN COLD WATER AND A SQUISH OF SOAP ISN'T GOING TO DO ANY GOOD. BE THOROUGH ALWAYS.

I guess they get it from the other kids in school.....in gym class maybe ?.....or in other sports.

What is Ichthammol Ointment Used for | Reference Answers answers.reference.com › Wellness › Perscriptions‎ Ichthammol ointment can be used for many different things. Some of the uses are, the treatment of insect bites and stings, treatment of boils, splinter removal, ...

I had those red streeks when I was a kid several times and  Ichthammol Ointment cleared it up quickly. It was removed from the market for a while because the CDC challenged it's safety. Nice to see it came back.

The CDC lacks perfecto, I guess. Red streaks indicate infection. How can ichthammol helps with splinter removal? I do that with a sterilized needle.

Yes, those red streaks is what they commonly call blood poisoning. It's medically known as sepsis.
Robert, they prob took it off the market b/c it was working too well, and they wanted to sell more antibiotics, and drugs that had a patent on them.

my bff swears by Silver Sol. She said it can heal anything. It's a liquid that you can put in your beverage. It also comes in an ointment that you can put on your sores, or burn, or on your cat's sores and scabs.

Yes, we use waaay to much antibiotic. You can't live with it and you can't live without it .... but mcm, you have done well!

The CDC has more info on infectious disease identification and control than any other open agency.

Terrible, Tabber. My condolences. Treat health problems can be dangerous as I'm finding out. I've even learned antibiotics can be dangerous. Take them too much and they won't work if something really serious comes along. How long ago did your friend leave you?
