Yes, unfortunately the pain can go on for quite sometime!..Shingles,(Hepes Zoster),is an opportunistic virus, which affects people who are run down..It is the Chicken pox virus which lies latent in people and is extremely painful as it targets the nerve endings...often worse pain when the weather is cold..It is a watery blistery rash which follows the pattern of nerve endings eg around your trunk..diagonal separate patches of weeping blisters..it can feel very itchy but severely painful if you try and scratch it.See your Dr.for possible ongoing anti viral meds/creams,(topical)..and take analgesia eg Ibruprofen..but check with your G,P.or Pharmacist as not compatable with patient with a history of Asthma ..C.O.P.D..(airways disease)..or stomach/duodena ulcers.
These days the pain is a lot more managable!
