It's a great opportunity for me to vegetate in front of the television and watch athletes perform to the best of their ability. I appreciate their talent, skill and dedication. It is also a wonderful time for the athletes to meet people and learn things that they would never otherwise experience.

According to a website: The Games are a well-known event, but are also part of a broader framework which is that
of the Olympic Movement.
The purpose of the Olympic Movement is to:
– link sport with culture and education;
– promote the practice of sport and the joy found in effort;
– help to build a better world through sport practised in a spirit of peace, excellence,
friendship and respect.

Peaceful contest lacks the sting of blood-thursty all-out war. So olympic contest provides a measure of skill without the body-count as in the "Hunger Games". Of course there are many people who prefers the blood-route over a game of checkers. So we have prisons for the "Winners" who still cling to the old ways settling matters...there to be among other, like-minded folk.
