    Do the Olympics serve a good purpose? If so what purpose?

    It's a great opportunity for me to vegetate in front of the television and watch athletes perform to the best of their ability. I appreciate their talent, skill and dedication. It is also a wonderful time for the athletes to meet people and learn things that they would never otherwise experience.

    And train for years for a few days performance.
    Good on them.

    Yep.

    Friendship and unity, and a chance to see the worlds best athletes.

    Yes, of course.... I bite my finger tips.

    According to a website:  The Games are a well-known event, but are also part of a broader framework which is that
    of the Olympic Movement.
    The purpose of the Olympic Movement is to:
    – link sport with culture and education;
    – promote the practice of sport and the joy found in effort;
    – help to build a better world through sport practised in a spirit of peace, excellence,
    friendship and respect.

    Let's practice! lol

    The trick is endurance....really vegetating, not getting up for snacks. Not sure if there will be a sub-category of channel surfing...

    Oh no...I MUST jump up and down...no endurance at all. :)

    They bring most of the world together.At least for a few days & the finacial benefit to the host country is a good thing.The Ruskies reckon they have hosted the best winter olympics ever.I saw some of the closing ceremony on TV & it was pretty good.

    I wanted to watch the closing ceremonies but unfortunately, I fell asleep before it ended. I guess I was just too tired from all the events in which I took part. lol

    Do they have Duckboarding in the winter olympics??

    Peaceful contest lacks the sting of blood-thursty all-out war. So olympic contest provides a measure of skill without the body-count as in the "Hunger Games". Of course there are many people who prefers the blood-route over a game of checkers. So we have prisons for the "Winners" who still cling to the old ways settling matters...there to be among other, like-minded folk.

    I think it kinda draws the nations together and lets them bury the hatchet for awhile. It's supposed to be amatuers, so why was one of the past professional Red  Wing players in one of the Hockey games ?

    Almost ALL of the hockey players in the Olympics, were/are currently playing in the NHL, not just one previous player from Detroit. I don't know why they use professionals but they do.
