I should give you a TD for this dish...like eating bland cream of wheat. Sorry but can't see what southerners see in this.
Grits is ground corn and taste like corn. Especially good with cheese! And lots of salt, pepper and BUTTER………….
Ducky .... ya gotta go to the states ... there's this peensy little roadside cafe' in Montana that serves corn-grits and I must have been real hungry because DANG was that good. It's cornmeal! I had only had cornmeal in this yummy Ukrainian dish called Natchinkah ...
I liked it a lot!
I liked it a lot!
I know ya'll....it's made of corn....I know...I know. Having tried several versions of these so-called delicious grits, I can say with NO hesitation....they are tasteless mush to me. I refuse to drive to Montana! :)
But ,,,, but ,,,, but ,,, I thought YOU were driving??? LoL Okay so no grits fer you little Ducky ... ever had the Ukrainska dish?
I'll pass and BTW, it's not that I think grits are horrible. I just can't imagine why anyone would want to eat a box of Kleenex, even with 'stuff' added. lol
Gedo is grampa
Kleenex with butter was the white bread .... oh man ... I'm talking to a duck..... jk ;D xox

Do you grow good ones, Tommy, our relatives cannot believe how much better and different ours are here compared to theirs in Queensland. Water and weather must be difference.
Fair to middling I'd say.Quite edible especially if you are cooking them.Water being the most important ingredient. The other thing is onions. We can't grow anything like the size we saw in Texas. One of my favourite foods there was Awesome blossoms.Great big onions spliced up Covered in bread crumbs & deep fried.YUMMY!
We have had them at our chain rest. "Outback" years ago in Florida, now they are here in the northeast. Also, everyone does them, but I had them there first. They are great, aren't they?
Did the Outback Restaurant remind you of home Tommyh or is their food nothing like the flavors of home?
Yeah they kinda reminded me of home.mainly the atmosphere. It was great food some like home...the steaks.Other food I had never seen before.Hash browns were another favourite. We have hash browns but not "Home cooked" like I saw in Texas.
I've never had a bad meal from Outback. You've given me a great idea for breakfast in the morning-homemade hash browns.
Make enough for me too! It's almost worth the trip to Bonny Scotland to have some.At least send me your recipe. :)
@Tommyh
There is nothing fancy about my hash browns Tommyh. I peel a few potatoes, grate them with a cheese grater, squeeze out all the liquid (or they will not crisp up when fried), add salt and pepper, then place them in a hot skillet with oil and fry them until done turning them over once during the frying process.
On occasion I like to fancy them up and I will add chopped onions, garlic, bell peppers, or jalapeno peppers to the grated potatoes. If you like your hash browns to stay together then add a slightly beaten egg or two( depends on how much you're making) and a little bit of flour to the mixture before frying the hash browns. They will come out looking more like a potato pancake.

Spaghetti w/pizza sauce. which is essentially tomato sauce. I can't do much more than boil water (which I just found out you have to do;I thought that you eat the spaghetti right out of the box). The sauce comes from a can. C'mon over. Greek yogurt for dessert. It's store-bought and I use an electric can opener to get through the foil.
