     Import your contacts when prompted to do so. You will only be prompted when you first sign up with Yahoo Messenger. To import contacts, click on "Add friends" and follow all on-screen prompts. Otherwise you can add contacts by clicking on the "+" sign with the icon that looks like the outline of a person.      Click on the "Messenger" tab at the top of the screen and scroll down. You have a variety of options that you can customize like whether you want to be seen as available or not, contact details and all preferences (appearance, sounds, people you want to ignore, etc.).
