Can I give my cats (almost one year old) a bit of my allergy medication?

I’ve heard of giving it for snake bites……..

Is your cat sneezing, or what ?

Sneezing and a constant runny nose. Watery eyes………..

If you see a yellow discharge from the nose, mouth or eyes, that is an upper respiratory infection and s/he will need antibiotics.

No yellow coming from “him”, just wet runny. We smoke and that adds a lot to the air…..

You may have to have him checked for asthma at some point. The smoke can cause that in him. It can also cause a respiratory infection so watch for that. You really should smoke outside if possible. Just a suggestion, not trying to tell you what to do. It would just make the cat's life easier, and yours too. Even though you smoke, breathing in second hand smoke all the time is just doubling the chance for future health issues.

What brand medication do you use? Benadryl is safe for cats. Do not use a product that includes, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Benzocaine or Paracetamol.

Info for the use of Benadryl: the standard dosage of Benadryl for cats is between 1 and 3 mg for every 1 lb. of your cat's body weight.

Thanks, I couldn’t spell Benadryl. That’s what we would use…….

Colleen, I just read your words to my husband. He said, "Colleen's pretty smart, isn't she?" I agreed. : ) We don't smoke but the air in our city is BAD. One of the worst places in the U.S. <boo hoo>
My cat has been sneezing and she had devil halitosis. Urk. Anyway, I'm going to give her a tiny bit of Benadryl before I spend a couple of hundred dollars and take her to the vet. ps Her breath is better.

I knew about the Benadryl because my brother used it for his dog. She had allergies and would get hives a lot.

Actually, I think she's better with a tiny bit of benadryl. She sits on the arm of my chair and when she sneezes she's sooo embarrassed. I swear she tries to put her dainty paw up to her pink nose. She can't do that so she runs away and hides under the couch. I know she'll survive it, but I feel sorry for her. Oh, you know, you've got animals.
