When I was 12-13, my friend and I decided to make a prank phone call. We found a local listing in our small town's phone book that had the husband and wife's names. I called and told them I was their niece and had just arrived on the bus. When were they coming to get me.
WHAT? Yes, my mom and dad had talked with Uncle and Aunt about my coming to spend a school semester in that town, and, with their approval, here I was! When would they be coming for me.
As the story unfolded, the couple "convinced" me I wasn't their niece, and I became distraught and began crying, just a little, nothing "over the top". They were so nice; without a lot of prompting, they said that even though they weren't my relatives, they would come get me, I'd spend the night, and the next morning we would call my parents and get things straightened out.
Of course, I didn't let the gag go beyond that. When I explained the "joke", I was careful to do so politely, and thanked them profusely for being the kind-hearted souls they were. They really were good folks, because they did NOT get upset with me.
