The Yellow Brick Road is a famous road paved entirely of smooth yellow bricks, which connects the various sections of the Land of Oz to the Emerald City in the center.

Land of Oz, where the wiz of a wizard gave Lion a medal for courage, Tin Man a heart, Scarecrow a diploma, and left Dorothy stranded when his hot air balloon took off without her. Fortunately she was wearing the ruby red slippers and just closed her eyes tapped her heels together and repeated, "There's no place like home, there's no place like home".

For the Tin Man, it was a human heart. For the Scarecrow, it was sharpened intellect. For the Lion, overcoming his fears. For Dorothy, it was to be with her loved ones. For the Witch, it was the ruby slipers (that she never got). And for the Wizard, it was to get past being the benevolent con artist of OZ.
For those who read all the OZ books, it was a great adventure -- into self.
