Maybe due to celebrities such as Magic Johnson, telling the world about the fantastic treatments that are available and how great he feels, all these years after diagnosis. I'm not so sure that "regular people" are lucky enough to afford the same.

I haven't seen the movie but I will watch out for it when it comes to DVD.I have never known anyone with AIDS altho I know of lots of cases here in OZ.

My best friend's brother-in-law and his partner died of AIDS and I have a wonderful cousin in the Aloha State who is HIV positive and having some health issues.  I think the stigma and fear of AIDS has dwindled as we've learned more about it, but I still see articles in magazines about kids who are HIV positive from one/both parents, and the ostracism they endure.  
Happy the day will be when a reliable, affordable cure is available for AIDS, cancer, macular degeneration, Alzheimer's, MS, and a host of other disease.

I wondered too, why you don't hear much about aids anymore. It's prob b/c they take that medicine cocktail everyday that enables them to live. Before that , a friend of mine's son died of aids, and a co-worker's son died of it.In fact a family here in my town who owned a clothing store had about 8 kids.And 2 of the boys died of aids !  :-(

 Heard the movie was good. Will have to rent it when it comes out on DVD .
