Why dont you just get out the antique phone book, use your rotary dial phone go to transmission rebuilders and call a couple and ask price for a rebuild . Then turn to auto parts used and see if any salvage yard still carries any thing that old. The age of the vehicle is going to be the problem here . You are going to find that a big obstacle. Weigh all the options and most important the warrenties if all dont go well. When you have all the numbers choose the best most affordable option . Might want to weigh the possibilty of of upgrading your transportation. In the end its what makes the most sense verus what you can really acomplish with what you have . Good Luck
