Is it legal in California for an insurance company to raise the rate on the premium for filing a claim on a homeowners policy?

I talked to my insurance company about filing a claim for damage to my home during a windstorm and they told me if I filed a claim they would taise my policy $200.00 a year. I am in California. Thank you.

I live in the UK and insurance companies rule the roost, they do this all the time, good luck.

In the USA, there is no cap on insurance premiums. They can raise at will. Most all insurance companies will raise your premium after you file a claim, you are considered an insurance risk then. This happens with auto insurance after an accident also regardless of whether you were at fault or not.
