Since I was 17 years old I have owned a light truck of some description or other.A necessity because of my trade.Hardly a week goes by without someone asking to borrow,or help shift or pickup & deliver some article or other. How would you say no.Some people just won't accept no for an answer.

My mate had the same problem many years ago, he was always out picking up something or another for other people(pick up here, deliver there) lift up three flights of stairs etc etc, he got so peed off he stopped answering his phone and wouldn't answer the door. He finally hit on the perfect solution, he started charging what the local removers charged per hour, amazing how the free business dropped off, and now he gets the occasional paying job, something to do in his spare time, and the extra wee bit of cash always comes in handy.

My son gets hit up on occasion because he's the one with the truck. I always offer to give him gas money or buy him lunch -
I like the idea of charging for the help, begging off because of insurance issues, or maybe just telling everyone who comes a-begging that you don't open that can of worms anymore...if you help one neighbor, you'll have six more at the door before dark. No exceptions.
(one of our former contributors had the same problem. He told everyone to go to a warmer climate. :D )

Friend of mine let a coworker drive his motorcycle around the parking lot....totaled it. No one drives my car...no one even asks.
My buddy has a bumper sticker on his... "Just because I own a truck, does not mean that I want to help you to move". It doesn't work, as his in-laws always hit him up for everything. I am replacing mine soon, after I finish helping my daughter move some stuff from my garage to her new home. I do not want to scratch up new one on first week...
