Download the newest firmware from your MP3 player's manufacturer's website and save the file to your desktop.

Click the "Start" button in the Windows taskbar. Click "Control Panel."

Click the "System" icon. If you're using Windows XP, click the "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager." If you're using Windows Vista/7, simply click "Device Manager." The Device Manager will open.

Click the "+" icon next to "Portable Devices." A list of MP3 players and similar devices connected to your computer will be displayed. Right-click the name of your MP3 player and click "Properties."

Click the "Driver" tab. Click "Update Driver." The Hardware Update Wizard will open. Click "Next."

Select "Search for the best drivers in these locations," click the "Browse" button, select the driver you downloaded in Step 1 and click "Open." Click "Next" to apply the new firmware.
