    i hope one of you out there can answer this.

    I was looking at requiring another dog, i had alook at a 18 month old female miniture Schnauzer, which i was told had recently been desexed, my question is ,anyone  seen or heard of a bitch with  the cut along the belly between its teats instead on the side where they shave the area and then make a small incision, the cut underneath along the belly is appox. 4 inches, any budding vets out there.

      99% of time that scar will be from an Ovihysterectomy, but to rule out another abdominal surgery, a simple ultrasound can be performed to verify that she is spayed.

        In the female, the abdomen is clipped free of hair, an incision is made along the midline of the abdomen, and the ovaries and uterus are completely removed;

          I've seen that scar and it seems to me that vets have different styles when it comes to spaying and neutering!

            My sister's dog was cut up and down. A dauchsuan.(sp?) don't know if breed makes a matter, I guess it's up to the doc.................But God bless   you for thinking about another dog..........

              G'day Jules, i know it has not been long since the death of my dog, i miss her terribly, aquiring another companion may feel the hole i'm feeling, i;m not replacing her as that would be impossible after 12 years, i just love having a dog around. The difficult thing is, what ever i end up with must love cats

              I understand. Worthless has been gone only8 mos. but we got TwO more kittens. No, the hole isn't replaced, just filled a little. Enjoy your new dog......

              I don't know the first thing about it, but there should be a record of the spay with the vet who performed the surgery.  Ask for the vet's name, or a certificate of spaying.  They do give those where I live.
