    can i stain or paint a piece of furniture with out sanding the wood

     my bedroom furniture has a walnut stain on it. I like to stain or even paint it green, with out having to go thru all the hard work of prepping. please let me know. thank you  petra

    Sorry, you will have to sand it all the way down to re-stain it. If you want to paint it, you will have to lightly sand it to take the varnish off so the paint will stick.

    Some do, some don't. Stained furniture typically has a varnish.

    1. STAIN: YOU can restain but sanding willgive you better finish.


    2. PAINT: Depends on the type of paint and color you plan to use. Nothing beats light sanding before a paint job.


    Even if it takes longer, don't take a short cut.
