    8 is the correct answer.  You need 2 to get from -2 to 0 and another 6 to get to 6.

    You can use (x) for blank then add +2 on both sides.


    -2 + x = 6


    -2 + 2  + x = 6 + 2


    x = 8


    Using a number line start at -2 and count how many numbers to the right until you get to 6. You will count 8 numbers.
