One who never behaves as though s/he has power and authority but quietly "leads the way". A good leader will gain respect by behaving well, making others want to follow his/her good example and to be of help to that leader.

As a leader I always encourage happy participation, sharing work for fun and lots of prizes for good work cheerful enthusiasm and thoughtful correction where called for. When I am asked to ram-rod an event we have many volunteers who like to work with me and mirror my example. When asked to start a new program to cover a shortfall in the progress... I ask that person to take charge of that if they can and to assign tasks to other volunteers. I keep notes on all that, often pass out cash support money and get agreements on volunteers and responsibilities. Smile a lot and complement everyone, name tags help keep things straight. Take a lot of electronic photos and record everything. Turn your work over to a secretary and in-charge ops committee if the event is big enough to need that like trade shows, fairs big auctions. Events that involve more than a thousand booths can take planning months in advance unless it is an annual event that you can work up and into to get to the top.

One that can convince the people that they are a good leader. 'lead and they will follow'. This can go both ways, a leader can be good or bad. One that has charisma, says the right words, (usually a lie) promises people a better way and can convince them of this-- Then you have a good leader. unfortunate, many leaders in the past and present are only good talkers, politicians --
in the work place, a good leader is someone that can keep profits coming while satisfying the workers at the same time.
