Is teaching still a noble profession?

I think it has become more of a thankless profession. It seems that both students and their parents have little respect for teachers. Parents place way too many demands on teachers now, expecting them to raise "little Johnny" while they are both at work.

Teaching IS a noble profession.  The BS teachers have to endure, teaching-to-the-test, kids with learning disabilities because Mom was using drugs/alcohol during pregnancy, kids who miss more school than they attend, and parents who are completely non-supportive of their child's education, let alone the teacher.  Administration is often arrogant and more interested in promoting their own careers than attending to the needs of the instructors and students.

Teachers, in general, deserve respect from students, parents, staff, and administration.

And teachers would help their own profession if they would clean house and get rid of the poor ones.

Yep. Tenure has its pros and its cons. My friend retired last year and subbed first semester for a kindergarten class. She has kept up with the kids, and attended the spring "Open House", at which time most of the parents told her their kid(s) missed her, and so did they.

I think teaching is wonderful! I can remember many teachers I had when in school.  Some teachers today seem much more dedicated, but parents do seem to leave it all to the teacher! Sad indeed!
