Hot bath, or ice massage (freeze water in a Styrofoam cup, peel it down and have someone use it to massage the sore muscles), some pain meds. and if possible anti-inflammatory meds. Lay low, do not garden for a few days, but do not lay in bed all day, it is better and do what you can, your recovery will take a couple of days. If you stretch before you garden it helps to prevent strains...

I am just recovering from the same injury.Hot packs & nice warm baths helped me.Take some paracetamol for the pain & try to avoid any activity that causes the pain.(That's the hard part).And if you do anything strenuous make sure you warm up first.I found that the specialised meds that you buy over the counter virtually useless.Take it easy for a couple of weeks.
