Your Heintzman piano was manufactured in 1898. More than likely it has seen its days as a musical instrument. many people when relocating, they leave these pianos behind to the surprise of the new home owner, they always think they have a gold mine but in fact, they don't have the gold, only the shaft. very expensive to do away with those old pianos. In my business, we have almost 100 of these old pianos in a warehouse - we will give them away to whomever wants them - We acquire them through trade-ins on new pianos, then we get stuck with them because they are really not worth fixing. In some cases, these pianos have been handed down generations, then the pianos has 'sentimental value' and then you might not mind putting a few thousand dollars into refurbishing it.

It is reasonable to assume that the serial numbers of Heintzman pianos began at 1000. A few benchmark numbers follow:
1867 .......... 1150
1870 .......... 1400
1880 .......... 2310
1890 .......... 7510
1900 ......... 15,700
1910 ......... 35,600
1920 ......... 61,700
1930 ......... 83,200
1940 ......... 86,300
1950 ......... 93,060
In 1980 Heintzman grand pianos were numbered in the 200,000 series, uprights in the 165,700 series. The production of uprights had ceased in 1979, but was resumed later.>>>>>http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/articles/emc/heintzman-co-ltd
