Seroquel (quetiapine) is an antipsychotic medication that works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. It used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), and major depressive disorder in combination with antidepressants. Medications are sometimes prescribed for uses that are not specifically listed in the prescribing information or the patient information leaflet. These uses are often referred to as "off-label," "unlabelled," or "unapproved." Talk to your doctor for more information about a specific off-label use. Common side effects of Seroquel include dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, dry mouth, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, upset stomach, constipation, increased appetite, and weight gain. It is not habit-forming. However, it should not be stopped suddenly. Seroquel often needs to be slowly tapered off or the dose decreased slowly to avoid side effects that can occur with sudden discontinuation.
