Blocking Site Access With Internet Explorer

Uninstall any web browsers on your computer other than Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer is often the easiest browser to use to limit web site access.

Open Internet Explorer, click "Tools," then select "Internet Options."

Select the "Privacy" tab and click "Sites."

Enter the website you wish to block in the field provided; click "Block," and then choose "OK."

Click "Start," then select "All Programs." Choose "Accessories," then "Command Prompt."

Type the following string into the DOS command prompt produced by Step 1: "notepad https://C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts."

In the notepad, find the line "127.0.0.1 localhost."

Type "127.0.0.1," followed by the name of any website you wish to block under "127.0.0.1 localhost." For instance, if you wanted to block cnn.com, you would type "127.0.0.1 https://www.cnn.com" underneath "127.0.0.1 localhost."

Save the altered notepad under "File," and close it. You can go back to this notepad at a later time and delete the strings you entered to enable the disabled sties.
