Good warm soil, compost, good lighting and side-dressed with fertilizer a couple of times after fruit has set on plants and during the season, with water and mulch. I use cages, to keep fruit off ground, and plenty of air circulation to prevent rust (fungi). If they are put into cold soil (too soon in spring) they sit and actually go backwards with their growth and production. Wait till soil temp is over 60 F. If fertilized too soon, before fruit sets, it causes vegetative growth, not reproductive (fruit) growth. The plants get very vigorous and leggy, and do not, or poorly produce fruit. And watch for "hornworms" and remove them before they wipe out the crop. Also, get plant stock that is of a "indeterminate" variety, as they bear continually, rather than the "determinate" which have a genetically determined number of fruit to bear, then they are done for the season... Good luck...

You can use fluorescent lights hanging a couple inches (5cm) above the planting flat and keep raising it as the plants grow--in a not well lighted room.Raise these plants until they are about 6 to 10 inches tall (15 to 25cm) for example and then transplant them when spring weather is appropriate for your zone.
