Millie is on her way into surgery. She has a 50/50 chance of making it. I know her to be a fighter. I'm counting on her to get through this. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Update on Millie:

Message from her brother:

Millie was moved from the recovery room @10:00 am and taken straight to intensive therapy unit where the Doctors decided to put her into a medically induced coma. This latest surgery is the most serious of a series of operations that she has had to endure and the next 48 hours are the main critical hours. There`s really not much more to tell you at the moment except that one of the family will be with her at all times. We are just praying that she will maintain her incredible fighting spirit and that we`ll have some more positive news to report in the near future.

Second update.

Millie is still hanging in there. I've received another e-mail from her brother which I share part of with you. The rest of it is just talking of his night worrying over her and what her children are going through. This part is to those of you who have posted here.

"I shall be back at the hospital along with one of the older children early in the morning and shall keep you updated as regularly as possible.My sister is a very gutsy lady and we know that she will fight as hard as her little body will let her just for the sake of being around for the children and family and our dear Mother who is now in her 90's and frail herself.So all that I can say now is a big Thank you to you all and I shall chat at her bedside in the morning and tell her how lucky she is to have such caring friends and I shall send her your love as she is without doubt sending you as she sleeps."

Update 4/7

I've spent the day at the hospital and one of my brothers and Adriel are back with her now.Very little news at this stage as she is still not awake but her vital signs have remained stable.We have just been sitting and talking to/at her even although with this medicated coma it is apparently used mainly for brain injury trauma but it being used in this case to completely rest all organs as sedation alone was deemed insufficient.I'm afraid that ,that is all the information available today.We are just taking things hour by hour at the moment,she is in good hands and appears as comfortable as can be expected.

Update 4/8

I'm afraid that tonight the news is not so bright.The Doctors decided to attempt to bring Millie round and to highly sedate her as her vital signs have been stable and they believed that she was ready to try to begin early stages of recovery with out the machines doing most of the work for her.This was carried out at 16.00 hours but we were alerted to get to the hospital fast as she had complications and had run into severe breathing difficulties.She was immediately reconnected to the machine supplying oxygen to her lungs,she had ceased breathing for approximately 2 minutes but her heart did not stop beating at any time. It is believed that she had suffered a minor blood clot to her lungs and medicine is being given to disolve the clot along with anti biotics as it was possibly due to a chest infection and physiotherapy is being performed hourly to assist her.We are all extremely worried and had no idea that a complication such as this could be a main risk factor.
She is said to be stable again at the moment but whilst trying to stay positive it is very hard to do so.We are all overwhelmed by today and the sudden set back and shall try and gain a few hours sleep but it's a very difficult time.All that we can do is maintain hope and pray that the next hours bring brighter news.I'm sorry to have to report this to you but we thought that you would rather know what is happening.

Update 4/11

"Millie is stable again for the time being anyway.They did scans yesterday and no blood clots detected,they are not certain of the reason of the last episode except that it may have been too rapid to withdraw the extra support.She is on I.V. infusions including antibiotics but Xrays show mild chest infection,caught early.
This is a speedy update,apologies but I hope that you understand the pressure at the moment."

Second update for today (4/11). The one above was sent late last night.

We are by no means out of the woods yet but we are all more encouraged by the situation. My sister is having excellent care around the clock,there are continuous tests,scans,checks going on all the time which is comforting in a way. We shall have another update from the Consultant in the morning which will include close family. We are in limbo pretty much until then but staying positive.I shall let you know of any changes but for now it's just a slow process of waiting.

Update 4/12

Good news! Millie has been brought out of her coma and is breathing well on her own,well with just oxygen and moderate sedation,this started last night under strict medical supervision and renal tests show that the kidney side of the op are stable and satisfactory,not rejected as has previously been at this early stage.Still a way to go but things looking more hopeful!

Update 4/13

The news remains positive,she is conscious but very drowsy but improving.Her sedation is being reduced and her morphine is being kept to the lowest possible dose as she is usually more distressed by the side affects than the actual pain but she is conscious enough to alert the nurses if she needs top up.
Two of the children have seen her today for a very short time and my nephew and Victoria(Our other sister's children) and my other nephew and nieces are queuing up to see her on Sunday. She is drowsy and not fully with us and is naturally sleepy and may get more prone to bouts of confusion with the pain relief. So the news is getting better and we are all elated at this present time.

Hello..it's me!......I'm very tired and ccant stay awake for long...but just to say hello and tell you that I'm getting better!!!....I don't recall an awful lot but maybe thats for the best.When I wake up I'll read all the E-mails...I cant see straight and will be asleep soon again but I'M in one piece and thou I don't really even know what day it is or how long ive been away... I was pretty unwell ,so am told.Just sending you lots of love and hope not ramblig on xxxxxxxmillie

PS.my kidney is now functioning almost as good as the next persons!!!!!!!!:-))and im going to get properly better the drs say!

She is still very weak but her vitals signs are stable. There is no suggestion yet as to when the doctors will bring her out of the coma. She is never alone as family members are there with her daily and her g/f who is a doctor has been staying at the hospital so she can be there nights. They talk to her all the time and pass along messages so if there's anything you'd like to say to her, I will be sure to send it along.

Welcome back! How was the wedding? Are you on your honeymoon? Yes, she's still with us and coming along slowly but she is awake. Just doesn't remember things from moment to moment but they believe that is due to the morphine she's on.
