I have a tool about 2 1/2 ft long and about 2 inches wide made of steel that has a hook at one end and a trigger-like lever situated midway down it. When you squeeze the lever a short metal end piece protrudes out the end opposite to the hook. What is this thing?

A 2 and a half foot long bottle opener? How big could the bottle be? It sounds like one of those grabber things (like the picture in the link below) to get things off the floor without bending or to reach stuff up high. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Unger-Industrial-960490-Total-Reach-Grabber-32-Inch/21282401

Nope, it's not a grabber, and definitely not a can opener.
I have a picture of it, but don't know how to put it here for you to see.

You will have to host the picture to a site like photobucket, then using the little tree in the menu of the add new answer box, you add the url for the picture.
