how do I go about that?

Where you would type in the password, there should be a "forgot password" link. Click that. If this is for an e-mail account, then the account no longer exists as e-mail accounts self delete if they are not used for 3-4 months.

I got a notice someone may be using my email account so to change it. when I tries it popped up an old account with comcast Which I haven't used in 4 or 5 years and needed a pass word which I have long since forgot. Even if I did remember I have no way of accessing an an account which has probally closed anyway. I am 70 years old not at all computer literate so am I just up chit creek as ever being able to access my mail again?

For that account, yes. It is closed by now. You could try contacting Comcast to make sure it really is closed.
