My 7 year old daschund has developed paralysis of hind legs. He is a very aggressive dog and does not allow me to physically handle him. he has no poop or bladder control. He also has sores on his hind elbows and tsticles because of the dragging. I live in India and have not had any success with finding pet diapers etc. What should I do?

Dachshunds are prone to Spinal Cord Problems. I had a Dachshund for 11 1/2 years and i never let him jump of the couch , the bed or jump out of the car.
I agree with bulletman and colleen that bycycle theraphy might help your dachshund regain the use of his legs. Accupuncture might also help. I am so sorry your dog has this problem. He is still so young.

It does so happen i have a miniture Dachsund, the problem with your Dacci, as i have found out is a common problem with this breed because of their extended spine, a pinched nerve can do it , i took my Sabrina to two different vets and they both told me the same thing-- have her put down, i did not accept it, for quite a while i watched her dragging her back legs everwhere , it was pathetic to watch. i looked on the net for a chariot for her, in the mean time i put here in the kids pool and i noticed she was moving her legs trying to swim, so i did bicycle motion on her left leg which seem to be paralized, her little legs could not support her body weight that is why she dragged both legs, with bicycle therapy over a few months she gained almost all strength back into her leg which she has now a slight limp, i would advise to get a least an opinon from a reputable vet, for as being aggressive i would say that is a problem you have made as these dogs have an incredible tempermant. -- good luck, just a litte percerverance goes a long way.

Think of the quality of life for your dog, not of yours without the dog. It may be time to have him euthanized, for his benefit, especially if he is aggressive already. As he develops more symptoms, do you imagine he will get any less aggressive? I do not, and he will become a liability with risks of biting others. Think of the great last gift that you can give him, no more pain and suffering...

Yes needs to be taken to vet because it could be suffering from hip dysplacia which is very painful on a dog. Also you could make your own diapers out of cottton cloth or buy baby pampers and make hold for tail i cut a small circle in baby pampers and tape a piece around the whole to keep inside cotton from coming out I made and but it on the dog. doggie pampers are just like baby pampers except it comes with the whole for the tail.
