    Instructions
    1
Clear off a workbench or table top. Lay a clean cloth or rag down to put parts on while cleaning them.

    2
Remove the reel from the rod and clamp the spool with a rubber band.

    3
Use hot water and soap to rinse the reel. Do not use high pressure water as it will damage the reel. If the reel has been used in saltwater, it is especially important to clean it right after use, as salt is highly corrosive. Rinse the entire reel, both outside and inside.

    4
Use a blow dryer to thoroughly dry the reel. Open the reel and spray the housing with a can of compressed air. Any water that remains can weaken and break down the grease.

    5
Many lubricants leave residue that attracts dirt. Use high-quality reel oil and grease. Clean any residue from the drags and apply a very small amount of reel oil. Use grease on main gears and reel oil on bearings and seals. These will protect the metals from corrosion.

    6
Once the reel is lubricated, reassemble it and then tighten the reel to allow the oil to spread evenly.
