It is her choice. She may see qualities in him that you don't. Maybe you could try to find the good in him.

Someday with your daughter's help and education they  may own that restaurant.  He's working.   Certainly you have other reasons for disliking him other than he tosses salads.

I hope you don't think I think the salad job is a look down job! But the questioner does!

No, i know you don't think that way, you made that perfectly clear, obviously though, the thread starter doesn't see much in a salad tosser. Apparently this person has no idea of the talent that goes into preparing a salad correctly. It's more than throwing a bunch of chopped lettuce together. For example, never put vinegar or other acidics in the salad before the oil or oil based dressing. It will wilt the lettuce in seconds. Also, a good salad maker (tosser) knows not to use a knife, always break the veggies. etc..

I was once at a resturant where the salad person came to the table and asked if we wanted fresh ground pepper! He got a big tip! I know you should not use a knife on your lettuce but I confess-- sometimes I do for speed! I guess I might be a bad salad maker!

If you are too involved, they will detatch and not confide in you, only give advise when sought.  I remember doing some background checks on guys that my daughter dated.  Nothing ever came back badly.  She never knew that I did this, so do not tell her, ha-ha!  Trust in your parenting, and hopefully, you have instilled good values.   When hormones are present, things do change however...

There are worse things to toss than salads.

Salad tosser is probably the reason mom doesn't like him! She wants more education for a mate to her daughter But you could be right about the future!,Vinny!

I was raised in the restaurant business, it was a VERY generous lifestyle, very profitable. I had everything I ever wanted, although i sold the place in the 80's i wanted to do something else with my life and I have been successful in my new life as well but I do miss the restaurant business. Tossing salads is not a look down job. I can't even remember how many families our restaurant raised.

just tell her that whatever happens, to make sure she doesn't get pregnant till they ( or at least she ) is out of college, and is gainfully employed, and is more mature, and has a place to live. That's what my step daughter kept telling both her son and her daughter, and so far it has worked. My step daughter doesn't want her kids to go thru what she and their dad did.......having a baby and getting married real young when they didn't have a pot to pee in,or a window to throw it out of.
