    Sorry, I went broke buying yours and chelleanne's trees.

    63.50 • 2 = $127.00

    $127.00 • 0.75 = $95.25

    TREE #

    1. $63.50

    2. $127.00

    3. $95.25

    I THINK!

    Why does this not work? 127.00 - 25% = 92.75 I'm confused. I hate math. Seems to me that to get 75% all you have to do is remove (subtract) 25%. Can you explain this to me? 50 years old and I'm still trying to understand basic math lol
    chelleanne

    The problem said for the third tree it was equal to 3/4 the price of the second tree.
    3/4 is 75%. You're doing 1/4 - 25%. You suppose to multiply 127.00 by 75% or 0.75

    I guess my mind has always wanted to simplify math. To just subtract 25% of the total in my mind should have left 75% of the total.... I'm confusing myself again,, lol...I know I'm just looking at it all wrong. Did the same thing in school too.

    Colleen, you are right that subtracting 25% of $127.00 should leave you with 75%. 25% of $127.00 is $31.75 (127.00/4 OR 127.00 x .25) Chelleanne's way requires only 1 step, where using 25% first requires two steps

    I suck at math but here goes.....

    (63.50 X 2) or (63.50 + 63.50) = 127.00

    127.00 - 25% = 92.75

    First tree = 63.50

    Second tree = 127.00

    Third tree = 92.75 << scratch that. Apparently that is the sale price. The correct price is 95.25

    Better check that 3rd tree price or tell me where you buy trees!

    My 3rd tree is cheaper than yours. You need to shop at my store :)

    let x be the price of the first tree=63.50

    the second tree=2x=2(63.50)

                                 =127

    the third tree=3/4x

                         =3/4(127)

                          =95.25

    Yep, good answer, but no karma for an already well answered question SJP.

    i wasnt thinking about karma i wanted to test my math abilities if they still worked during holidays

    let x=tree

    tree trees=3x

    price of the first tree=63.50

    ....................second=twice as the first(2x63,50)

    =127.00

    .....................third=3/4x127.00

    =95.25

    therefore the total price of the trees bought is 63.50+127.00+95.25

    =285.75

    1st tree=63.50

    2nd tree=127.00

    3rd tree=95.25
