Remove the seat. There is a single bolt at the rear of the seat. Remove the bolt, lift the seat, pull to the rear. If you have the sissy bar on the bike, you may have to push the seat forward enough to clear the sissy bar, lift a bit more and then pull to the rear.
Look at the battery box on the right side of your bike. Just to the rear of the box there are two hex head bolts. Loosen but do not remove these two bolts.
Going back to the top of the frame where the seat was, look just behind the battery on the inside of the frame. You'll see a "jack screw". Turning this bolt counterclockwise lowers the battery. Turning it clockwise raises it.
Turn the bolt counterclockwise and lower the battery. This releases the pressure on the top cover of the battery allowing it's removal. Then you can remove the battery surround.
Disconnect the negative terminal first whenever removing a battery. Reconnect the negative terminal last when replacing the battery. This procedure will prevent arcing and damage to your bike. It may even prevent the battery from exploding. Discharged batteries contain hydrogen gas and a spark can cause an explosion. http://www.fixya.com/motorcycles/t3785731-remove_battery_2005_fxdwgi
