The GPX file extension stand for GPS eXchange. It is utilized by a vast number of GPS software applications in Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems and for a variety of uses, including vacation waypoints, topography and point-to-point directions. GPX is an open format, which means anyone can create software that can read GPX files. GPX files contain a description of the data inside and can be transferred between operating systems, computers, mobile devices and software.

Download GPS software if you do not already have it. Once downloaded, double-click the download and follow the instructions to install it.

Open your GPS software by clicking its desktop icon. Alternatively, you can click "Start" in the lower-left corner of your screen, then click "All Programs" and find your program in the list.

Click on "File" in the top menu bar. Select "Open" from the drop-down menu.

Locate the GPX file that you would like to open, click on it once and click "Open" in the lower-left.
