Your Whirlpool direct-drive washing machine has stopped spinning. If it still fills with water and drains as usual, you're going to have to replace the drive coupler. It's the most commonly replaced part on Whirlpool washing machines, and with a little effort, you can repair it on your own without having to call in a service technician
.
Instructions
1
Unplug the washer. Remove the mounting screws to the top console and open the console. It's on hinges.
2
Disconnect the wires going to the lid switch and use your screwdriver to remove the two clips that attach the cabinet to the back of the washer. Tilt the top of the cabinet forward and pull it away from the washer.
3
Remove the two clips holding the pump to the motor, and then remove the pump. Disconnect the wiring harness from the motor and remove the clips from the top and bottom of the motor. Remove the motor to access the drive coupler.
4
Replace the old drive coupler with a new one. Reattach the motor, wiring harness, and pump.
5
Replace the cabinet. Make sure to put the bottom front lip on the cabinet under the bottom of the washer frame first, and then let the cabinet down until the tabs on the frame match up with the slots on the cabinet. Remember to reattach the lid switch wires. Close the console and plug in the washer to test it.
