When you have successfully completed the ARD Program, you must file a Petition for Expungement with the Court of Common Pleas in the county where the arrest occurred. There will then be a hearing before a judge to confirm that you completed the program and that the offense is eligible to be expunged. The judge will issue an Order granting the expungement. The Order then needs to be served on numerous law enforcement agencies and court agencies. The agencies are then required to purge all of their records relating to your arrest from their files. This is the most important step since just getting a judge to sign the order will not get your record expunged. The process will take 2 to 3 months from the filing of the petition. Some agencies are slow in purging their records.
