      We are never told how or when she died, just that Andy is a widower, and that information is only given at the beginning of the series. TAGS ran for 8 years (1960-1968) and Opie ages naturally.

        Mayberry is a  pretty weird town, deputy with one bullet in his shirt pocket, town drunk that locks hiself up, mechanic named Goober that's had the same car on the rack for 8 seasons -- Strange things in that town -- And not one mexican!

                  i remember watching andy in the early 70s but never remember see or even hearing about the mom. i knew the ron howard played on hit show,happy days.ok thanks
